Pierre Poilievre is Trying to Distance Himself From Donald Trump. American Right-Wing Media Keeps Praising Poilievre.

American right-wing MAGA personalities are rooting for Pierre Poilievre

Despite Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s recent attempts to distance himself from US President Donald Trump, American right-wing MAGA media personalities and influencers have been some of Poilievre’s biggest supporters.

Poilievre has enjoyed several years of sympathetic coverage from right-wing media in the United States. However, as soon as Trump began talking about applying tariffs to Canadian products and making Canada the 51st state, Poilievre’s alignment with Donald Trump has appeared to become a liability for the Conservative Party’s hopes to form government.

The Conservative leader has watched his once seemingly insurmountable lead in the polls disappear over the past few months. According to the Toronto Star, Conservative insiders discussed using MP Jamil Jivani to send backchannel communications to his best friend, Vice President JD Vance, requesting Trump distance himself from Poilievre.

Poilievre has received kind words from Trump in the past. On January 6, 2025, in an interview with right-wing radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump expressed positive feelings about the opportunity of working with Poilievre as Canada’s prime minister:

Hewitt: I think Trudeau might resign today, are you looking forward to working with Pierre Poilievre – the new guy?

Trump: I am, I am. If that’s what happens. Certainly it would be very good, our views would be more aligned certainly.

But in the past few weeks, Trump has changed the way he talks about the Conservative leader.

“Well, I think his biggest problem is he’s not a MAGA guy, you know?” Trump told the Spectator. “I mean, he’s really not, he’s not a Trump guy at all.”

On March 18, Donald Trump changed his tune, telling Fox News Poilievre was mean to him and he would rather work with a Liberal: “I don’t know him but he’s said negative things.”

The next day, Poilievre claimed these quotes were an endorsement of Mark Carney.

Embattled Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who came under fire recently for an interview with Breitbart, also admitted to talking with Trump officials about how best to get Poilievre elected.

Poilievre has tried distancing himself from the US President, but given the track record of support from right-wing media personalities, public figures, and the President himself, that seems to be a difficult obstacle to overcome.

“The president says he doesn’t like me, he doesn’t think that I’m a MAGA guy – I am not,” said Poilievre. “It is true that I am Canada First, I am only for Canada, I’m fighting for the interests of this People and this country.”

Despite the fact that Donald Trump and Poilievre have both started saying that the Conservative leader is not a “MAGA guy”, the paper trail tells a different story. The following quotes and transcripts are just a handful of examples of conservative American media personalities voicing support for Pierre Poilievre over the past few years.

Ben Shapiro: “Pierre Poilievre, who is going to be Prime Minister of Canada … he’s a tremendous politician”

On December 18, 2024, right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro published a video on the Daily Wire titled “Pierre Poilievre is for the People.” In the video he showed a clip of Pierre Poilievre sharing an anecdote in the House of Commons about a Labatt’s brewery worker being ashamed of himself for not making enough money for his family.

“Pierre Poilievre, who is going to be the Prime Minister of Canada, a tremendous politician, a member of the Conservative Party in Canada, they’re just awaiting a new election,” Shapiro said, introducing the clip.

Shapiro spent the video explaining how Poilievre is going to win the next Canadian federal election and reinstate proper family values to Canada.

“The dream is family, house, dog being able to earn make sure that your kids have more wealth than your parents gave you,” he said.

“These are the dreams, whether it’s the Canadian dream or the American dream that’s the dream,” he said. “That is a very different dream from ‘I get to screw whoever I want without any consequence and society needs to pay for it.’”

Shapiro,  whorecently attended a PragerU event in Florida with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, has previously advocated annexing Canada:

“It’s a silly country that makes maple syrup, hockey and annoying prime ministers … we can annex it and then just call it an outlying territory or something like Puerto Rico, but of the North.”

Alex Jones: “Pierre Poilievre is simply dialed into the truth”

Noted far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, best-known for losing a $1 billion defamation lawsuit brought by the families of the Sandy Hook school shooting, told his viewers last year that he and Poilievre share similar ideas.

“Poilievre is simply dialed into the truth behind the anti-human globalist agenda,” Jones said, adding that Poilievre is “the real deal.”

Dennis Prager: “I hope he becomes Emperor of Canada”

Conservative commentator Dennis Prager, infamous for once complaining that “the Left has made it impossible to say the N-word,” praised Poilievre on an episode of Dennis Prager Podcasts published October 19, 2023.

Prager spent the first 25 seconds of the segment struggling to pronounce Poilievre’s name, before watching a clip of Poilievre answering questions from Don Urquhart of the Okanagan-based Times Chronicle while eating an apple.

This clip went viral in Canada and the United States, with many right-wing commenters praising Poilievre for standing up to a “woke” journalist.

“He’s a good-looking guy, I hope he becomes Emperor of Canada,” said Prager.

Prager suggested it was hypocritical that “The Left” would condemn him for “sexism” for commenting on a woman’s physical appearance, but take no issue with him calling Poilievre “good looking.”

“Everything about ‘the Left’ is despicable, everything,” Prager said. “That reporter was despicable.”

Matt Walsh: “Republican politicians in this country should take note”

Matt Walsh, a conservative podcaster that works for The Daily Wire, also made comments about this apple clip.

On October 19, 2023, in a video titled “One of the Best Viral Videos To Come Out of Canada,” Walsh showed the same clip of Poilievre (Walsh originally calls him Poily-vey, but later corrects himself) to his 3.18 million Youtube subscribers.

“Poy-lee-vay, I think I got it,” Walsh says, struggling with Poilievre’s name. “He’s a Canadian Conservative Party leader and he’s gone viral for a positive reason,” adding that Poilievre is “pretty brilliant to watch.”

“Republican politicians in this country should take note.”

Glenn Beck: “He is fantastic”

The founder of Blaze Media has shared clips of Poilievre talking in the House of Commons on his YouTube and Facebook pages to millions of his followers. He has commented positively on Poilievre’s apple video as well.

“The man never stops eating the apple,” Beck remarks. “He is fantastic.”

Ann Coulter: “Brilliant”

Speaking to Rebel Media’s Ezra Levant on March 18, Coulter referred to the apple clip as “brilliant” and asked the question — “that’s him?”

Dave Rubin: “Actual leader”

Dave Rubin, host of the conservative talk show The Rubin Report, posted this on Twitter in support of Poilievre.

“Canada has a clear choice. Blackface, pandering, two-spirit, World Economic Forum shill with nice socks, or an actual leader.”

Joe Rogan: “Pierre Poli… How do you say his last name?”

Although some of his listeners would argue that Joe Rogan is not a conservative, his guest list, his poorly-received “anti-woke” comedy, and his tendency to regurgitate conservative talking points tell a different story. Rogan has voiced support for Pierre Poilievre a minimum of two times on his show, both times asking his guest how to pronounce his name.

Last year in June, Rogan spoke with Canadian comedian Tom Green about his dislike for Justin Trudeau and why he thinks Pierre Poilievre would be an improvement.

Rogan: I love Canadians, I just hate their government.

Green: Mmhmm, and sometimes-

Rogan: Pierre Poli… How do you say his last name?

Green: Yeah well it’s French, I don’t think he’s French but the name’s French. Pierre Poilievre. It’s a weird R, silent R.

Rogan: Poilievre, yeah it’s strange as you see it written down, it’s very difficult – That guy makes so much more sense, he’s so common sense and just calling out all the nonsense that has been done under this administration, it’s just so sad to watch.

Rogan did not expand on what nonsense had upset him so much and the conversation eventually shifts when Green gives him maple syrup as a gift.

The following is a transcript of an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience with Concordia University Marketing Professor Gad Saad, airing in late January 2025.

Saad: We’re much further down the woke abyss than you guys are.

Rogan: It’s a cautionary tale

Saad: Yeah exactly, so I think, yes, Pierre Poilievre will be an obvious massive improvement over Trudeau

Rogan: Is that how you say it?

Saad: I mean if you say it with a proper French accent, yeah it’s Poilievre

Rogan: other people say it differently, what’s the wrong way to say it

Saad: Every other way an American or an English-Canadian would say it

Rogan: I’ve even heard people say it “Polly-vet”

Saad: No, it’s Poi-lievre

Rogan: Poilievre

Saad: Yeah

Rogan: Pierre Poilievre

Saad: Yeah

Rogan: He’s a very logical guy. One of the things that is interesting, a reporter questioned him whether he aligned with Donald Trump and that there were two genders, and he said well if there are more than two genders I’d like you to tell me what they are.

Saad: That one was great, but of course – the classic one is the apple.

Rogan: Yeah, when he was eating the apple? He’s great!

Saad: That was like straight out of a Spaghetti Western.

Rogan: Well it seems like that’s what your country needs, and I hope it happens. I hope he wins. I hope there’s some kind of a recognition that if America changes course and course corrects and America starts to thrive and do better – which I think it will – and gets the violent crime down and a lot of the issues down and prices down and if all that stuff happens I hope Canada comes to its senses and wakes up from this woke trance.

Saad: I think it will, but it will be a longer autocorrection.

Rogan: Yeah unless you become the 51st state, come on, join up (laughter).

Elon Musk: “💯”

Elon Musk, currently the world’s richest man and a key member of Donald Trump’s inner circle, and recent endorser of the far-right AfD party in Germany has also voiced his support for Pierre Poilievre on Twitter.

On December 18, 2024, on a post from Bill Ackman stating “Pierre Poilievre is extremely impressive. He should be Canada’s next leader. The sooner the better,” Musk responded with the 100% emoji.

Liberal Leader Mark Carney has taken advantage of Poilievre’s alignment with the US President in his campaign. In a speech on March 26 in Windsor, he quoted Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s comments about Poilievre being “very much in sync with President Trump.”

“Someone who worships Donald Trump will kneel down before him, not stand up to him.”
