People’s Party of Canada Leader goes on Christian Nationalist web show, echoes Trump policies
Maxime Bernier doubles down on anti-immigrant and anti-DEI rhetoric ahead of upcoming federal election
People’s Party Leader Maxime Bernier was a guest on a Christian Nationalist web show this week to discuss his aim to return Canada to a “civilized country,” by reopening the abortion debate, getting rid of “ghettos,” removing DEI and following US president Donald Trump’s lead when it comes to certain policies.
Bernier spoke with Tanya Gaw, founder of Action4Canada, a BC-based Christian nationalist organization to address various issues ahead of the 2025 federal election.
Action4 Canada describes itself as a grassroots movement in opposition to “the destructive forced tearing at the fabric of this nation” on its website. Action4Canada also says its mission is “making Canada great again” and protecting “Judeo-Christian Biblical principles.”

Action4Canada is one of many Christian nationalist groups that participated in convoy occupations across the country in early 2022 and their latest videos involve topics such as Sharia law, returning schools to “biblical principles,” and conspiracy theories surrounding the “deep state.”
Action4Canada has 35,000 followers on Facebook and has chapters open across the country.
The group has also issued a call to action to their followers to sign up as candidates for the PPC, so that they have enough candidates for Bernier to participate in the Federal Leader’s debate.

Bernier said that he is looking to populist victories “like in the US” as a symbol of what’s to come for Canada.
“That populist win coming from the US and in Europe also is coming to Canada and the People’s Party is that vehicle,” Bernier said.
“We are at the right place at the right time and I believe that all these changes that Trump is doing in the US, that Nigel Farage is doing in the UK, that Marine Le Pen is doing in France— all that will come to Canada.”
Policies that Bernier hopes to enact include getting rid of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies, and banning immigration—taking another page out of Trump’s book.
“Promoting that DEI radical ideology (must) stop,” Bernier said.
“We want to protect our Canadian identity. When you have multiculturalism in our country, we are not doing that and that’s why we want to stop immigration.”
Bernier further added that he does not want people to come to Canada to be a part of “ghettos” like in Brampton and Surrey.
“We have enough ghettos in our country. You have Brampton, Ontario, Surrey, BC. That’s enough. People must come here to integrate into our country.”
“Every culture is not equal. We know it. I’m not a racist by by saying that. It’s only the reality.”
Bernier also shared his goal of reopening the abortion debate in Canada, “like the discussion that they’re having in the US right now,” around banning abortion beginning at conception.
“We are the only country that is not part of the civilized countries across the world,” Bernier said.
Bernier also discussed a need to strengthen Canada’s defense, which would in turn help the country have a better relationship with the US.
“We need to do these changes at the top and after that, reinvesting to protect our borders, that would be good for our own security, but also for the national security of the US and that will help us to have a good relationship with President Trump,” he said.
