PressProgress Podcast Nominated for News Award
'Sources' podcast shortlisted at annual Canadian Podcast Awards
The 7th Annual Canadian Podcast Awards announced PressProgress Sources as a nominee for Outstanding News & Current Affairs Series, along with four other shows in the category. The annual awards celebrate excellence in podcasting, recognizing the contributions of Canadian podcasters, editors, and producers.
Sources is an interview-based show that draws from experts and newsmakers to explore and expand on the stories covered by PressProgress. It is a member of the Harbinger Media Network with a focus on hard news and subjects that are often overlooked.
“When I found out the Sources podcast was nominated for the Canadian Podcasting Awards for Outstanding News and Current Events, I was humbled,” said PressProgress reporter Stephen Magusiak. Launching it in 2022, Magusiak curates and hosts the show. “It’s rewarding to see us carve out a place in the vast constellation of Canadian new media.”
PressProgress journalists are regular contributors to the show, drawing on years of investigative reporting on topics that include political movements, national security, labour issues, and social democracy. Magusiak is grateful for the collaborative effort to make the show what it is today, “Thanks to the team, Luke Lebrun and Rumneek Johal, and of course show producer Eric Wickham.”
The show has notably covered issues such as unprecedented overdose deaths in the international student community, the history of healthcare privatization, police investment in social research, the growth of the far-right movement in Canada, and more.
“Nominees such as PressProgress Sources showcase the incredible talent we have in Canada, capturing the unique perspectives, ideas, values, and creativity that Canadians bring to podcasting,” said John Leschinski, Founder of the Canadian Podcast Awards. “This year, we received over 1,900 nominations from across the country—it’s an extraordinary honor to be recognized and celebrated by peers within the Canadian podcasting community.”
The category ‘Outstanding News & Current Affairs Series’ includes past winners such as Canadian History Ehx, CBC’s Front Burner, CBC’s Party Lines, and the Daveberta Podcast. Winners are chosen by the podcasting community, and will be announced during a live stream event online in December. Internal voting closes November 22.
