The Commodification of Education in Alberta

Wing Li from SOS Alberta unpacks the push towards privatization of education in Alberta.

As funding for charter schools in Alberta rapidly increases, the quality of public education is being eroded.

Funding numbers in April show that the UCP government has increased funding for charter schools by 18.6% compared to a 6.83% increase for public schools.

The government also announced an $118 million dollar charter school hub and experts say that public education in the province is under attack.

Rumneek Johal is joined by Wing Li with Support Our Students to discuss the rapid expansion of Charter schools in Alberta under conservative governments, and how they almost exclusively cater to elites using public funds, at the expense of everyday Albertans.
