Lululemon Founder Erects Billboard Outside Vancouver Mansion Denouncing BC NDP as ‘Communists’

Vancouver billionaire Chip Wilson is warning his wealthy neighbours about the dangers of communism

Vancouver billionaire Chip Wilson has erected a giant billboard outside his $80 million mansion warning neighbours that the BC NDP is “Communist.”

Earlier this week, a “massive” sign was spotted outside the libertarian businessman’s mansion, located in Vancouver’s wealthy Point Grey neighborhood.

“Eby will tell you the conservatives are ‘far-right’ but neglects saying the NDP is ‘Communist’,” the sign states.

Wilson, who has so far remained surprisingly quiet during the provincial election, previously forayed into local politics by investing $380,000 into the Pacific Prosperity Network, a right-wing political organization created to help “right-leaning, free-enterprise” candidates get elected during the Vancouver municipal election in 2022.

Wilson’s mansion is coincidentally located in NDP Leader David Eby’s riding of Vancouver-Point Grey.

Vancouver resident Sam Smart, who confirmed seeing the sign outside Wilson’s mansion, says she saw an image of the sign on social media and wanted to go see it for herself.

“It made me laugh so hard,” Smart told PressProgress.

“I personally find it really funny and pathetic that he put such a huge sign up,” Smart said. “It seems like Chip Wilson normally just goes for things like giving $380,000 to the Pacific Prosperity Network, or putting Ayn Rand quotes on tote bags, or saying that child labour might not be that bad, or mocking Japanese peoples’ pronunciation of Lululemon.”

“Chip Wilson’s politics seem to be a very strange variety of far-right libertarianism.”

Smart estimates the sign is at least 10-feet-tall.

“I think Chip Wilson is probably feeling a little powerless despite being the 8th richest man in Canada and felt like an ugly, overbearing sign would help make him feel in control somehow,” Smart said.

Smart said she noticed passersby who had “confounded” looks on their faces upon noticing the massive sign.

Representatives for the Wilson family did not immediately respond to a request for comment from PressProgress prior to publication.

According to Forbes, Wilson’s net-worth is around $5 billion.
